Perhaps you’ve done this before in a yoga or meditation class where you sit in Sukasana, an easy sitting pose and stare into a comfortable distance. Trataka is a method of gazing at some object in the distance to stabilize the mind and bring clarity to the moment. This practice eventually builds concentration, and prepares one for mediation. A simple and powerful puja, ritual that can be done anywhere, to tune into inner peace to distill the moment.
Try both external and internal gazing this month, to experience them both. Internal or antar trataka, bring focus to your breath, heartbeat or the pulse in your finger tip. During external or bahir trataka, various objects can be used including a candle, flower, art, stone, etc. If at first this practice is overwhelming and the tasks and chatter doesn’t stop, don’t give up just yet, work on it this month with us and see what we all can gain from a little more effort, from a place of silence and stillness. Read more on our blog throughout the month and share your experiences as well!
