Teaching Moment

It was a Friday afternoon, and I decided to head downtown to take a yoga class. As I turn around the corner of the last flight of stairs to get to the fourth-floor studio, I see a line of people waiting. Peculiar, I thought, as it was 5 minutes before class was to start. Luckily, I remembered that I had keys and so I let everyone into the studio. I decided to take a lead and play a role that is so familiar to me, and check in all the clients for the class. Once all twelve were settled I was getting a little nervous as there was no teacher in sight. Luckily a familiar friend that has been attending many of the same classes as I have noticed my stress. We each took a phone number from the list, and called down the teacher list until we got a hold of someone and realized that no teacher will be coming. I had only one choice, to teach class. After the frantic start, I was nervous, not prepared, and disoriented. However, deep inside I was confident that I could choreograph a fine vinyasa class in the moment.
