Yes, I've had a leg cramp before but only once or twice and during the day. During my second trimester, I was rudely awaken with a sharp cramp in my calf a few times (funnily, usually only my right leg). Now in my third trimester, they are more frequent and in both legs, still only during the night when I sleep. My trick as I feel the spasm coming, gently straightening the leg while FLEXING the foot (pulling toes to the shin and pressing the heel out). I've stopped several tears this way; cramps, a common symptom in pregnancy that is not fully explainable. It could be due to diet (not enough Magnesium, Potassium, or Calcium), not consuming enough water (dehydration), or simply the extra weight putting pressure into the legs and blood vessels. My understanding is that usually it's not too worrisome unless the cramps are very frequent or constant, severe and perhaps come with swelling.
Here's a quick meal that I made one evening:- some organic raw spinach with a squeeze of lemon juice
- boiled potatoes & carrots
- simmered seitan
(I kept a little extra water, mixed the seitan, potatoes and carrots together and added some curry powder, salt & pepper, sauteing for a couple more minutes)
What I got: A great meal that included protein and good carbohydrates & fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, vitamin A, E, C, K, B-6, folate, and a bunch of other mineral goodness.
