Taking Care of Us

I think that it is SO important to take care of ourselves and our babies during the entire pregnancy. As our body is changing, the weight gain and distribution, and other symptoms, alter our being and center. What works for one, may not work for another, and so I encourage everyone to explore different ways to relax, rejuvenate and recharge. This is a sample of what I do to take care of us:

Daily: Rehearse a couple of postures and breathing techniques in preparation for labor, drink a lot of water, eat fresh and local seasonal produce as well as lots of protein, take my vitamins/minerals, drink tea and eat a piece of dark chocolate. Also, take a nap or just rest my eyes and lay down for a few minutes.

Weekly: I practice and teach prenatal yoga, and take several walks to the lake, mild hiking in the woods or just strolling around the neighborhood. Read and chat with other mom's about labor, birth, babies and parenting. Envision my beautiful home-birth and meeting my baby.

Monthly: Indulging in a prenatal massage and prenatal acupuncture.
